A bit about the new Google Algorithm, in the words from Google itself first:
“The page experience signal measures aspects of how users perceive the experience of interacting with a web page. Optimising for these factors makes the web more delightful for users across all web browsers and surfaces, and helps sites evolve towards user expectations on mobile. We believe this will contribute to business success on the web as users grow more engaged and can transact with less friction.”
To put it in simple words, Google will be aiming to assess how user-friendly your website actually is. If you want to be at the top of a search engine, what you need to do is make your website as user-friendly as possible by removing unwanted experiences for the user.
From a user’s perspective, this new update will ensure a rise in user engagement as experiences on the web improve. The new page experience metrics are called Core Web Vitals.
The Core Web Vitals measure the different aspects of real-world user experience that determine the overall page performance, speed score, and several other metrics.
Google’s existing user experience metrics include the following:
· Intrusive interstitial (pop-ups) guidelines
The new page experience metrics will analyse:
· No intrusive interstitials
· LCP (under 2.5 for 75% of page loads)
· FID (under 100 milliseconds for 75% of page loads)
· CLS ( less than 0.1 for 75% of page loads)
This new Page Experience Update is all set to be deployed by May of 2021. If you haven’t paid attention to making relevant changes to your website before now, there is still some time on hand to set the wheels in motion so that your sites can avoid any significant shifts in ranking when the time comes.
